Clear vision in rain, snow and road spray is one of the simplest and most important safety features on your car — and it comes down to a part most drivers forget until it starts to streak: the wiper blade. This guide walks you through choosing the right blades and knowing when to replace them.
1. Get the right size
Wiper blades are measured in inches, and the driver and passenger sides are often different lengths. Check your owner’s manual, read the length printed on your current blade, or use an online fitment lookup. Motion universal blades are available from 14″ up to 28″ (14, 16, 17, 18, 20, 22, 24, 26 and 28 inch), covering almost every car on the road.
2. Choose the right type
There are three common styles:
- Conventional (framed) — traditional metal frame, budget-friendly.
- Flat / beam blades — a single curved strip with no exposed frame; they press evenly across the glass and perform better at speed and in winter. Motion wipers are flat beam blades.
- Hybrid — a beam blade wrapped in an aerodynamic shell.
3. Check the connector
The blade has to clip onto your wiper arm, and there are many arm fittings (J-hook, bayonet, push-button, pinch-tab and more). The easiest solution is a multi-fit blade: Motion blades ship with a set of 7 adapters so they fit the vast majority of arms with no guesswork.
4. Know when to replace
Replace your blades when you notice streaking, skipping, squeaking, or torn rubber. As a rule of thumb, change them every 6–12 months — rubber hardens with sun, heat and frost. Always replace both front blades together so they wear evenly.
5. Fitting is a two-minute job
Lift the arm away from the glass, press the release tab, slide the old blade off, clip the new one on until it clicks, and gently lower the arm back. Give the glass a quick clean first for the best contact.
