Winter Car-Care Checklist: 10 Quick Checks

Winter Car-Care Checklist: 10 Quick Checks

Cold, wet and icy weather is hard on a car. A few simple checks now will keep you safe and help avoid a breakdown when temperatures drop. Here is a quick winter checklist.

Your winter checklist

  1. Wiper blades – replace any blade that streaks or skips. Winter rain and slush demand a clean wipe.
  2. Screen wash – top up with a winter screen wash rated to at least ‒10 °C so it does not freeze.
  3. Battery – cold weakens batteries. If starting feels slow, have it tested.
  4. Tyres – check tread depth and pressure; grip matters most on cold, wet roads. Consider winter tyres.
  5. Coolant / antifreeze – make sure the mix protects against freezing.
  6. Lights – shorter days mean more driving in the dark; check every bulb and clean the lenses.
  7. Brakes – listen for noises and check they feel firm.
  8. Heater & demister – confirm they clear the glass quickly.
  9. Door & lock care – a little silicone on rubber seals stops doors freezing shut.
  10. Winter kit – carry an ice scraper, gloves, a torch and a small first-aid kit.

Keep on top of these and your car will be ready for whatever winter brings. You will find wipers, bulbs, screen wash and more in our shop.
